My name is Mike Farnan and I'm here to share with you my system for building a thriving and productive sales organization.

it'll give you the knowledge, tools and process to take your business to the next level.

But before you access this, I'd like you to know this was not something that I dreamt up overnight. Rather, this system represent a career’s worth of education and experiences.

You see, 15 years ago I jumped into the world of entrepreneurship to create a system integration business centered on video surveillance

I was confident the business would be a success because I had the formal education and plenty of experience selling technical solutions, implementing sales processes and creating strategies.  I also knew the technology and video surveillance industry very well.

As expected, it was a lot of work getting organized and putting systems together. I worked long hours and most weekends, but I pushed through thinking that it will get better next year - But It Didn't!

As a matter of fact, I became more overwhelmed than ever

I was not only busy crafting proposals, but also trying to keep up with the constantly changing technology, new solutions and customer needs. My first reaction to this was to just work harder and find ways to improve my own productivity.

But this ended up distracting me too much. Eventually I had too many things on my plate, got sick from exhaustion and started making mistakes that cost me some big deals. I felt like a failure and was seriously reflecting on my life.

I however was not ready to quit. So after reflecting on my challenges it became clear to me that in order to grow, I needed help selling our solutions. Or rather, I needed to start building a sales organization.

This however was going to be difficult, because we could not afford to hire an experienced sales person. I also knew that even if I could hire a salesperson, I’d need to have a clear vision of success, strong value propositions and most importantly, I’d need to have systems and processes in place to properly focus and manage them.

I was already overwhelmed with work and could hardly imagine getting all of this done. So I thought about how I could start this journey of building a sales organization, without taking on a lot of risk and disrupting the business.

And then an idea hit me. I thought, what if I hired someone to help me implement a new quoting tool? This would not only quickly improve my productivity, it would offer a way to build the foundation for a strong sales organization.

So I started this experiment with our newest employee.  And keep in mind this new employee had no technical or industry knowledge. So I figured if I could mold this employee into a valuable member of the sales team, I would have the confidence to continue growing the business.

Anyway, as this productivity initiative unfolded, there were many decisions that centered around my vision for the company, but rather than just lay them out for this new employee, I decided to include them in the decision process. This allowed me to inject my values, strategic thinking and reasons for my priorities.

I continued to work on productivity initiatives in this manner and the results were amazing because in 6 months this new employee, who had no technical or industry experience was suddenly our most productive employee, crafting complex proposals and making other contributions to the business.

Well I eventually sold the system integration business, but that success along with my career's worth of experiences taught me the secrets to building a productive and thriving sales organization.
